Writers: Mary Rusimbi, Asseny Muro, Professor Marjorie Mbilinyi, Anneth Meena, Lilian Liundi, and Dr. Victoria Lihiru Poetry: Hellen Bulungu
We invite you to join us in exploring the journey taken by Tanzanian women to and from the The Fourth World Conference on Women held in Beijing, China in 1995, also known as the 1995 Beijing Conference. During this conference, feminists and women’s rights advocates pushed world leaders to commit to taking action based on the principle of women’s rights as human rights.
This book is a snapshot of Tanzanian women’s experiences engaging in the global feminist movement leading up to and including the 1995 Beijing Conference. You will read ‘our’ stories, and you will hear ‘our’ voices as we share our first-hand experiences, reflections, and ideas. This book is the herstory we need to inspire the next generation of women to continue to build a fair and just world – for everyone.
The publication of The Beijing Journey stands as a testament to TGNP’s steadfast commitment to feminist advocacy and the promotion of gender equality in Tanzania.
