Tuinuke Pamoja Project: Let’s Rise Together to Advance Gender Equality and Women Empowerment

PROJECT LAUNCH

Wednesday May 28, 2025 at Kondoa Town Council, Puma Grounds

Tuinuke Pamoja Project is an ambitious three-year initiative that aims to enhance collective actions for gender equality in Dodoma, Tanzania.

The project is jointly implemented by Aga Khan Foundation (AkF) and Tanzania Gender Networking Program (TGNP) through grassroots community groups. It is supported by the Embassy of Ireland in Tanzania.

Tuinuke Pamoja is dedicated to resourcing community groups for enhanced collective grassroots action for gender equality and women’s empowerment (GEWE) in Dodoma, Tanzania.

Gender equality and women’s empowerment remain critical challenges in Tanzania, particularly at the grassroots level, where local organizations and community groups often lack the necessary resources and capacity to drive transformative change. Despite efforts by national and international organizations, women’s movements are dominated by large NGOs, leaving grassroots actors with limited influence in shaping gender policies and advocating for social justice.

Grassroots actors are grounded in localized knowledge, serve as frontline and last mile actors for key issues, and are highly trusted by their communities. Today, women grassroots leaders face challenges such as lack of access to financial resources, violence, discriminatory norms that make it challenging to advance gender equality agenda

Tuinuke Pamoja Project will support over 1,000 people including women, youth, people living with disabilities and elderly, in collaboration with 105 grassroots community groups in the Dodoma region, including the districts of Kondoa, Chemba, Bahi, Chamwino, Kongwa, Mpwapwa and Dodoma City.

We believe:

  • If grassroots community groups have access to resources
  • If grassroots community groups increase their capacity for collective gender equality action;
  • If local governments and community leadership are engaged and provide an enabling environment for gender transformation;
  • If grassroots community groups are linked to established women’s rights networks;

THEN there will be an improved collective action for gender equality in Dodoma.

More details and analysis can be found in the Tuinuke Pamoja Project Brief

The launch event will bring together  grassroots organisations, government officials, and partners in community development to promote awareness, visibility and understanding about the Tuinuke Pamoja project objectives, output, activities, and implementation.

The event will feature members from grassroots community groups from Kondoa and Chemba District Councils, Ireland’s Ambassador to Tanzania, the Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children, the Regional Commissioner for Dodoma Region and District Community Development Officers from 8 Councils.
