VP orders the police force to effectively control GBV incidences.

The Vice President Samia Suluhu Hassan yesterday ordered the recent appointed Dar es Salaam Regional Police Commander Lazaro Mambosasa to make sure that the incidences for gender violence, child rape and the related are effectively controlled in Dar es Salaam Region.

The VP issued the directives at the official launch of the 14th Gender Festival event that has being prepared by TGNP Mtandao soon before launching the event.

She expressed concern over the escalating incidences of gender violence in city despite the presence of special desks in the Police Force to control it.

Tanzania has so far ratified a number of International conventions and agreements that proclaims for gender equality, but so far, there is a low improvement in the gender equality.

She added that the public is expecting a lot from the Police Force as a mandated security organ that among others is responsible to deal with gender based violence.

“I want to see improvements in the control of gender based violence that cost the life of women and child,” she said.

She however applauded the initiatives by TGNP for advocating on gender budgeting, women positions in the decision making process as well as campaigning against gender violence.

Samia said that the network has being providing key and notable recommendations that assists the government in the formulation of its strategic plans.

For her part, Executive Director for TGNP Lilian Liundi said that the festival is an open platform that brought together women, men and activists to share ideas, experiences and success and to identify key challenges that still holds back the struggle for gender equality.

Dubbed; ; ‘Transformation of Oppressive Systems for Gender Equality and Sustainable Development, the festival will involves several topics for discussion includes leadership and development; women agenda is the key votes. Women economic rights; how will gender equality be empowered. Women history our favorite, as well as resources to benefit marginalized women.

“I would like to applaud the government initiatives in bringing about the gender equality and sustainable development,” she said.

“We acknowledge various initiatives for liberating the women economically through the National Economic and Empowerment Council (NEEC),” Director added.
