Providing Social Services and Good to TGNP During the District Gender Festival to be held at Kondoa District 27th -29th August 2024

Tanzania Gender Networking Programme (TGNP)is a Non-Governmental Organisation which has
been in existence since 1993. The approach of the organization is enhancing strategic linkages,
networking and coalition-building among like-minded civil society organizations, grassroots groups
and key networks and coalitions as well as government officials at both local and national level.
Over the years, TGNP has made a substantial contribution towards developing a critical mass of
organized civil society with the capacity to critically analyze and stimulate public debate and to
carry out activism and collective action on pertinent social, cultural, political and economic
development issues. This is made possible through various platforms and spaces which brings
together the like-minded organizations to discuss, reflect and strategies. One of the forums/spaces
used is the District Gender Festival (DGF).
The District Gender Festival is an open forum for community groups, knowledge centers, CBOs
FBOs, likeminded individuals and organizations from the zone, district and regional level to come
together to share experiences and knowledge, to celebrate achievements and assess challenges
from issues raised during Intensive Movement Building Cycle (IMBC), to strengthen networking
and coalition-building, to build capacity and to contribute to public debate and plan collectively
for social change from a feminist perspective. Furthermore, it enhances participants’ capacity at
the district level to organize and work together with the Local Government Authorities and policy
makers in bringing out their development while demanding for accountability from amongst the
LGA leaders and from amongst themselves.
The 2024 District Gender Festival will be the 8
th Festival organized at the district level in response
to deliberations and demands raised by networks and groups at the local level during the national
Gender Festival of 2019. Since 2010 TGNP in collaboration with Knowledge Centers, Gender and
Development Seminar Series participants, ward, and district local government leaders, WROs,
CSOs and individuals have been organizing and conducting the District Gender Festivals.
